Transcutaneous afferent patterned stimulation therapy at the wrist for essential tremor relief

چکیده
Transcutaneous afferent patterned stimulation (TAPS), also referred to as non-invasive peripheral nerve stimulation, at the wrist provides a promising option for management of essential tremor. This new wrist-worn neuromodulation method avoids risks surgical interventions and can be easily used home. TAPS therapy is indicated aid in temporary relief hand tremors following adults with No serious device-related side effects have been reported. Future studies will needed determine optimal parameters stimulation. article introduces device reviews tremor-reducing mechanism clinical effectiveness

Tremor entrainment by patterned low-frequency stimulation.
High-frequency test stimulation for tremor suppression is a standard procedure for functional target localization during deep brain stimulation. This method does not work in cases where tremor vanishes intraoperatively, for example, due to general anaesthesia or due to an insertional effect. To overcome this difficulty, we developed a stimulation technique that effectively evokes tremor in a we...
متن کاملNon-invasive Brain Stimulation for Essential Tremor
BACKGROUND There is increasing interest in the use of non-invasive brain stimulation to characterize and potentially treat essential tremor (ET). Studies have used a variety of stimulation coils, paradigms, and target locations to make these observations. We reviewed the literature to compare prior studies and to evaluate the rationale and the methods used in these studies. METHODS We perform...
متن کامل"Asleep" deep brain stimulation for essential tremor.
OBJECT Deep brain stimulation (DBS) performed under general anesthesia ("asleep" DBS) has not been previously reported for essential tremor. This is in part due to the inability to visualize the target (the ventral intermediate nucleus [VIM]) on MRI. The authors evaluate the efficacy of this asleep technique in treating essential tremor by indirect VIM targeting. METHODS The authors retrospecti...
متن کاملTranscutaneous electrical nerve stimulation (TENS) for pain relief in labour.
BACKGROUND Transcutaneous nerve stimulation (TENS) has been proposed as a means of reducing pain in labour. The TENS unit emits low-voltage electrical impulses which vary in frequency and intensity. During labour, TENS electrodes are generally placed on the lower back, although TENS may be used to stimulate acupuncture points or other parts of the body. The physiological mechanisms whereby TENS...
متن کامل[Transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation in the relief of pain related to physical therapy after abdominal surgery.].
BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES There are few studies on transcutaneous electrical stimulation (TENS) as an adjunct to postoperative physical therapy. The objective of this study was to determine the efficacy of TENS on relieving pain related to physical therapy after abdominal surgery. METHODS A clinical, randomized, prospective study was undertaken with 48 patients on the first postoperative day,...
